In Oct 2020, Guy won the bi-annual Arthur Iberall Award for “Integration of Natural Science and Social Science", presented by the International Association for the Integration of Science and Engineering (IAISAE). 
Guy completed his BS in civil engineering in 1974, a degree in geological engineering in 1977, and a PhD in engineering in 1979, each at Mines ParisTech, followed by a Docteur d’Etat at University of Paris VI in 1989. Guy has been a professor and research at Saint-Etienne School of Mines since 1977.
